Sandstone flooring India has deep historical roots. The most famous sandstone flooring and cladding example in India would be the Red stone used for making the Red Fort. Sandstone is a Siliceous stone comprising of silica sands like quartz and other organic matter like sea shells in compressed form. Sandstones are hard and have a natural and rustic look. Sandstones are not as elegant as Granite or Marble. These have very small size grains due to which they do not get the same patterns and designs as marble or granite but have enough strength to be used in outdoor heavy traffic areas and landscaping. Sandstones are usually treated as local stones as most areas produce some or the other type of sandstones. One can also find sandstones being used as paving materials in gardens or road side drain covers. The sandstone are comparatively economical since they utility is more functional than aesthetic. Having said that if creatively used in design, sandstones can provide a economic yet attractive option especially in landscaping, paving and outdoor wall cladding.
